News / Voe Show cancelled
THE FIRST of this year’s agricultural shows in Shetland has been cancelled as a result of the wet summer.
The Voe Show was due to be held on 1 August.
But following a show field inspection on Thursday night the committee reluctantly decided to cancel the popular annual event.
Committee secretary Sheena Summers said on Facebook on Friday morning that the show field was too wet and the ground too soft for the show the to go ahead safely.
Committee chairman Alex Stout added: “It is not going to get better this year, I think.
“It is devastating for the committee and the exhibitors for all the hard work they put in through the year and in the run up to the show; it is not a decision that has been taken lightly, but safety comes first.”
Exhibitors are currently being informed that the show has been cancelled.
However, the GTL disco on Saturday night will go ahead and the organisers hope that local people will turn out in strength to support it.
