News / What a difference a day makes

Ivan Reid's photos show how the weather gods can transform the look of a place.

THESE two photos from Ivan Reid illustrate how Saturday’s storm gave Symbister Harbour a near-apocalyptic feel. A mere 24 hours later, an idyllic calm was restored.

The top image – complete with smoking from the storm – was taken at around 9am on Saturday, when winds were reportedly gusting up to 100mph in Whalsay.

The lower photo – almost unrecognisable from the first – is taken at exactly the same location 24 hours later.
