News / Police name pedestrian killed in Burra accident

A YOUNG driver is in police custody in Lerwick following a fatal road accident in Burra in the early hours of Sunday.

Shetland police have confirmed that the man struck and killed by a car on the B9074 at Hamnavoe at around 1.50am was 38 year old George Michael Armour.

The driver is due to appear in court on Monday.

The B9074 at Hamnavoe is currently restricted to traffic with one lane open. Police also said that the B9074 through Tingwall valley was closed allowing access to properties in the area only.

The fatal accident happened at the end of the Burra rowing regatta, which was held on Saturday.

Police are calling for witnesses to contact them on 101 or on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
