Letters / A new beginning

If the distillation of 300 years of Westminster rule means we know where every fishing boat and sheep is but not thousands of illegal immigrants, and if fear of crime forces the more affluent and aged to seek the safe cages of gated communities, and if people freeze to death in the most energy-rich country in Europe, then is it not time to do better?

A few negative naysayers have said a vote for self-determination means there is no going back, the door is closed on the Union.

Positive people say the door is open to a new beginning and that not a single country that has shed the shackles of Westminster rule has ever sought to return.

Yours faithfully
