News / Police name missing ferry passenger
POLICE have named the 22 year old man who went missing from the overnight ferry between Lerwick and Aberdeen as Craig Townsley, from Shetland.
The young man was last seen on board the NorthLink-operated ferry Hjaltland at around 3.30am on Monday.
A sea based search involving up to 25 vessels and two search and rescue helicopters was stood down on Monday night after failing to trace the missing man.
Detective Inspector Stewart Mackie said: “Our officers are still treating this as a missing person enquiry which remains ongoing. However our initial enquiries indicate that Mr Townsley may have gone overboard.”
The family of Mr Townsley has been made aware of developments.
