Letters / Déjà vu

Ian (Why parrot their dogma?; SN 3.6.13), so your concerns are now purely financial?

This would present an excellent case of back seat driver syndrome, but we also seem to be on a crazy roller coaster of what your actually concerns are.

Here’s an example:

“Onshore wind farms on deep peat found unlikely to reduce atmospheric CO2 – most recent research by Scottish government 2013,” but you are OK with Total building a gas plant, which definitely does not reduce atmospheric CO2?

Furthermore, you know how the saying goes regarding assumptions and your assumption would be wrong.

I am not overly concerned about VE and their so called “propaganda” as you put it. I’ve looked at the project and the government’s targets for renewables and believe that we will have wind farms on and around this island in the near future.

SCT investment into VE is the lesser of the two evils and creates a voice for Shetland. At the end of the day we have a natural resource that the government and multi nationals want to get their hands on.

I wonder what similarities this project has with Sullom Voe back in the ‘70s and the outcry about these untouched islands getting Europe’s biggest oil terminal dumped on its door step?

No doubt a few people will be seeing deja vu.

I look forward to you and SUS’ campaign against Cullivoe and their community wind farm project. No doubt you and your comrades will have a few sleepless nights about all the peat getting dug up in Yell.
