News / Lifeboat launched for Linga
THE WHALSAY ferry Linga had to be taken out of service for a time on Tuesday evening after her engine stopped half way between Symbister and Laxo.
Lerwick lifeboat was launched and the Whalsay pelagic trawler Charisma set off to escort her in.
Colin Manson of the council’s ferry services said Linga, with 15 people on board, had lost power and had to go to anchor until the onboard engineer managed to re-start the engine. He said the problem had most likely been a “fuel fault”.
The Linga berthed at Laxo ferry terminal at just before 7pm, and after another check from shore-based engineers the vessel was due to be back in service by 8.30pm.
