News / Fishing boat escorted to Lerwick
THE PETERHEAD fishing vessel Rosemount (PD313) with five crew on board was escorted to Shetland after starting to take in water after being hit by another vessel, 50 miles east of the isles on Wednesday evening.
Shetland Coastguard was alerted just after 8pm.
The Sumburgh-based coastguard helicopter search and rescue 102 was scrambled to take an extra pump to the stricken vessel, and Lerwick lifeboat was also launched.
After the helicopter lowered a second pump on to the vessel, its crew managed to stabilise the situation and reduce the level of water on board.
The helicopter returned to base once the lifeboat had arrived at the scene.
Both vessels arrived at Lerwick harbour at around 2.30am on Thursday morning.
