HOW FAR would you go for a pint of beer?
Fair Isle crofter Steven Wilson has gone viral after a new advert showcasing his epic quest in search of a pint was released by home keg provider PerfectDraft.
The full video has been viewed 1.3 million times since being released by the company just last week.
It shows Wilson, who is described as being a “crofter”, “fisherman”, “DJ” and “whatever else the island needs me to be”, setting off from his island home to Lerwick after a hard day’s work.
The video claims Wilson lives in the “home farthest from the pub in the UK”, with 1,500 sheep occupying Fair Isle but with no pub in sight.
Wilson sets off on “simple journey” for a pint, shown walking roads, hopping streams and climbing hills before making the 60 mile trip to the Mainland via a fishing boat.
After a lift to town, Wilson is seen walking into Lerwick mainstay the Marlex before landlady Anna Hepburn rings the bell for last orders.
A distraught Wilson then makes the arduous trip home by car, sea and foot.
PerfectDraft said because it could not bring Fair Isle to the pub, “we brought the pub to Fair Isle”.
Wilson is then shown enjoying a pint of beer through the machine at home, before a number of residents from the isles descend on his home to join the party.
“There’s nothing better than sharing a pint of draught beer with your pals,” Wilson says.
“Nae more miles, boats or ‘last orders’. Finally the pub has come to us.”
