News / ‘Significant damage’ at Sandwick school after break-in
“SIGNIFICANT damage” has been caused to Sandwick Junior High School after a break-in over the weekend.
Headteacher Christie Ford said in a letter to parents and carers that she was “very saddened” to report the damage to parents, adding the break-in was likely to have taken place on Saturday night.
She said there would be an “increased police presence” in and around the school over the coming days as a result.
“This is a deeply unfortunate situation, and I am very saddened to share that there has been significant damage to parts of our school building,” she said.
“Our school is a valued part of the community, and it is upsetting to see it impacted in this way.”
Police are investigating the incident, Ford told parents in a letter sent today (Monday).
“I would ask that if you, your child, or anyone in the community has seen or heard anything that may assist with this investigation, please come forward and share this information either with myself directly at school or with Police Scotland so we ensure this is dealt with correctly,” she said.
“Please be reassured that the school remains open as normal, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff, as well as the security of our school building.”
Police Scotland has been approached for a response.
