Police / Nearly £40k worth of drugs recovered in Lerwick
POLICE say drugs worth almost £40,000 have been recovered in Lerwick.
Local response officers, alongside specialist units from the Aberdeen operational support unit and Dogs Against Drugs, carried out a routine search at the Royal Mail sorting office on Monday (16 February).
With the help of police dog Bravo, a package was found which contained herbal matter believed to be cannabis as well as suspected cannabis vapes.
Their combined value is estimated to be worth £38,345. Enquiries are ongoing.
Chief inspector Chris Sewell said: “We are determined to protect Shetland by disrupting the supply and distribution of harmful substances, preventing them being circulated in our community and addressing the concerns of local people.
“We will continue to take action against those involved in such criminality and will fully investigate all reports.
“Information from the public is vital to our work and we urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs to contact us via 101 or make a call to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
