Letters / Credit where credit is due

In October of last year, Hannah Mary Goodlad made a speech at the SNP conference.

She told delegates and the SNP leadership that our lifeline ferry service was not good enough.

She proposed that islanders should not have to pay peak fares and should have a quota of cabins and vehicles reserved every night during the peak season of summer.

Her inspirational speech went viral both inside Shetland and outside. Despite this there were some who saw her demands as wishful thinking.

Credit where credit is due, she has persuaded the Scottish Government to abandon peak fares and now they are seriously looking at how island cabin quotas can be introduced.

She is energetic, articulate and determined. If she can achieve this for Shetland only as a candidate, what more can she deliver if she is elected as our MSP in May?

With Hannah Mary having a seat at the table, Shetland’s best days lie ahead.
