THE SHETLAND Girls and Women’s Football Club is enjoying more success after netting a national award.

It won the Sustainable Club of the Year prize at the ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football awards for its efforts in developing girls and women’s football in Shetland.

The ceremony was held at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday night.

It comes after the club won the team of the year prize at this year’s Shetland Sport Awards earlier this month following a successful 2025 which included lifting a Highlands and Islands cup, thrashing inter-county rivals Orkney and showing up well at the Island Games in Orkney.

Freya Leslie was also nominated as Highlands and Islands player of the year at the national awards, while long-standing club secretary and coach Adam Priest was also up for the volunteer of the year prize.

In the end there was success in the sustainable club of the year category, which Shetland was previously nominated for back in 2023.

Priest and player Kayla-Marie Pottinger, who recently joined Alloa Athletic and is also an assistant coach with Shetland, collected the award on behalf of the club.

Speaking on stage, Priest highlighted the time and travel commitments associated with the club competing on the mainland.

He also said the growth of girls and women’s football in Shetland is being done with “great spirit” – and “long may it continue”.

Judges meanwhile praised the club’s “effort, tenacity, talent and resilience”, something which Priest said embodied Shetland as a whole.
