Marine / Ocean Challenge pulled off the rocks by pelagic trawler Serene

THE LARGE whitefish trawler that ran aground off the island of Whalsay this morning (Wednesday) has been refloated.

The 28-metre Ocean Challenge was hauled off rocks near Kirk Ness by the Whalsay-based pelagic trawler Serene at around midday.

Lerwick lifeboat and the whitefish boat Avrella stood by.

The Ocean Challenge is now heading to Lerwick under her own steam, with the lifeboat going with her. It is understood the Ocean Challenge does not require assistance.

A MarineTraffic chart shows that the accident happened just before 6am when Ocean Challenge ran aground at a speed of 10 knots.

All on board are said to be safe and well and there are no reports of any injuries that occurred during the incident.
