Transport / Free again – Helliar on route to Aberdeen
NORTHLINK’S freight vessel Helliar is finally on her way to Aberdeen after having been freed from Forth Ports a short while ago.
The vessel was trapped at Leith for the last two days, missing two vital cargo runs on the Northern Isles route.
The cargo ship was unable to leave the port following a short period in the dry dock because the entrance to Forth Ports was blocked by a large renewables vessel Xiang Taikou unloading components for the offshore wind industry.
Shetland’s seafood industry had called on the Scottish Government to intervene, and that is what has happened according to local SNP candidate Hannah Mary Goodlad.
She said minister for agriculture and connectivity Jim Fairly had been working with Seafood Shetland, NorthLink Ferries and Forth Ports to find a solution.
“This is an SNO government that understand the importance of getting livestock and live product to the Scottish mainland with speed,” the candidate said.
The Helliar is expected to take up her schedule from Aberdeen on Friday, sailing to Kirkwall and Lerwick at 3pm.
