Community / Army reserves member given lord lieutenant service award
BOMBARDIER Anthony Mockford has been given an award recognising his meritorious service to the army.
The army reserves member, who is also a retained firefighter, was given the award by vice lord lieutenant Iain Tulloch at a private ceremony held at Fort Charlotte in Lerwick.
Also present was the commanding officer of 105 Royal Artillery Lieutenant Colonel Bertram and station commander Tony McLaughlin from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, along with close friends, family and reserve soldiers from G-Troop based at Fort Charlotte.
The award read: “His Majesty’s lord lieutenant of Shetland hereby places on record his high appreciation of the meritorious service of Bombardier Anthony Mockford of 212 (Highland) Battery, 105 Regiment Royal Artillery.”
Mockford said the award “gives a sense of achievement and is a great validation of hard work and perseverance”.
He added that it is something that would not have been possible without the support of 105 Royal Artillery and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“I would like to thank both organisations and my close friends and family for their continued support,” Mockford said.
The minimum qualifying service for the award, which is open to serving members of organisations like the army, RAF and the navy, is eight years.
