Sport / Joy as swimmer Julian selected for Scotland
TEENAGE swimmer Julian Okroj has been selected to represent Scotland at junior level.
Delting Dolphins, his local swimming team, said they were “delighted” by the call-up, which came in recognition of his “outstanding performances in recent competitions”.
“His hard work, commitment to training and attitude towards the sport have led to him being invited into the national junior team, a huge achievement at age 14,” coach Graham Farmer said.
It caps off an incredible 2025 for Okroj, who won medals in seven of the eight events he entered at the Scottish national age group championships earlier this year.
He then went on to compete at the Island Games in Orkney, making a number of finals and improving on his best times, before going on to represent Shetland at the invitation-only GB Next Gen competition in Sheffield the weekend after.
He secured nine races there, the most any Shetland swimmer has ever had, and made seven finals over the meet.
Farmer said it had been a number of years since a swimmer from Shetland had been invited to join the Scottish team at this level.
He added Delting Dolphins are “extremely proud of Julian and would like to thank his committed coaches and supportive parents for their continued dedication”.
Okroj will travel to the mainland to take part in training weekends with the Scottish team, and will also attend select British and Scottish national events.
He could also gain overseas experience away from the UK.
