Community / Firefighters to scale ‘Ben Nevis’ in support of brain tumour charity
FIREFIGHTERS from Scalloway will take on a towering challenge later this month to raise funds for the Brain Tumour Research charity in memory of a colleague’s father.
In a moving tribute, the team will climb the equivalent of the height of Ben Nevis — the UK’s tallest mountain — using their 13.5-metre fire station ladder.
The event will take place at Lerwick Fire Station on Saturday 30 August at 11am and all are welcome to come along, show support, and donate.
The fundraiser has been organised in honour of firefighter Kieran Fraser, whose father tragically passed away due to a sudden brain related illness last year.
Determined to make a difference, Kieran and his fellow crew members are rallying around the cause to raise as much financial support as possible for ongoing research and family support services.
“This is not just a physical challenge — it’s a tribute, and a way of giving back,” said one of the organisers.
“We’re hoping to see the Shetland community come together and help us support Kieran’s family and others affected by brain tumours.”
All proceeds will go to Brain Tumour Research, a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and funding vital scientific studies to find a cure.
