Marine / Goodlad to introduce Salt Roads to Faroese readership

LOCAL author John Goodlad is heading north to the Faroe Islands for a series of events featuring his latest book The Salt Roads.

The Faroese trip coincides with the launch of a paperback edition of the popular book which first was published in early September last year.

Published by Birlinn, The Salt Roads Goodlad looks at the close cultural and economic links that were forged between Shetlanders and the Faroese people during the time of the cod smack fishery in the 19th century.

He is also discussing the very contemporary issues of sustainability and climate change.

“I am really looking forward to visiting Faroe again – our close island neighbours with whom we have so much in common,” Goodlad said

The Salt Roads will also be released as an audio book on Tuesday 15 August, narrated by Neil McFarlane.

Goodlad said he was delighted that The Salt Roads would soon be available as an audio book.

“This format is becoming increasingly popular with folk who prefer to listen to a book being read than read it themselves,” he said.

It will be become available via a variety of digital distributers including Audible, Apple, audiobooks.com and Google Play.

Already translated into Dutch, Goodlad said the book has now also generated much interest within the South Korean fishing industry and discussions are ongoing regarding a possible translation into Korean.
