Council / Council makes free period products available for delivery
SHETLAND ISLANDS Council has just launched a new way for people to access period products.
The council has been providing free products in public buildings since 2021, after the Scottish Government passed the Period Products (Free Provision) Act.
Now it is offering another way for people to receive them, hoping to make the service even more accessible.
From today (Tuesday) packs of period products can be ordered online here and delivered anywhere in Shetland, free of charge.
A mix of disposable and reusable products are on offer, including period underwear, pads and tampons.
The council hopes the scheme will encourage people to try reusable products, which are often costly.
It should also make it easier for everyone to access products, as location, transport or health difficulties can prevent people from picking them up in person.
Council leader Emma Macdonald said: “We’re pleased to be able to include an online option as well as the pick-up locations already available, to help improve access to period products in Shetland.
“We’re also excited to be offering reusable products and contributing to the council’s net zero targets.”
