INTERIOR design is so much more than “only decorative”, says Reka Szucs of Studio 81 Design, the Shetland based interior design and bespoke furniture maker studio.

Husband and wife team Peter and Reka have been evolving their construction/building business into interiors since 2018.

Operating their building business, they saw an opportunity in assisting their clients plan and design their homes and have since developed this aspect into a business.

While Reka finished her diploma in interior design, Peter was forced to give up the construction business due to series of health issues and started creating bespoke resin and wood furniture from their home workshop.

Peter’s uniquely made furniture and accessories have received many compliments through the latest Shetland Craft Fair in November, along with commissions from as far as San Francisco, France and India.

Today the studio has many satisfied local customers who either purchased one of Peter’s unique creations, or clients who have been praised on their new interiors.

Anybody who gets in touch with Studio 81 Design would expect to receive an initial design and detailed description of ideas upon their first consultation.

After agreeing on design and services, customers will get a quote on costs involved. Upon acceptance, plans will be drawn and samples chosen before any work commenced.

Studio 81 Design will communicate with tradesman, source materials and project manage every job they commit to.

“While many think that interior design is only decorative and prefer doing themselves, functionality and purposeful planning is essential to find balance in every room,” said Reka.

“A good design takes many factors into account such as the location of the room, available natural light, as well as the client’s way of living and their personal taste.

“Working with an interior designer can be cost effective through available resources and supplies. It saves people the hassle and headache of bringing a renovation or a newly built space together.

“It can also open up one’s perspective of the possibilities of creating a home that comforts and complements everyone’s way of living.”
