Community / Parents and carers of young children invited to take part in online course
A NEW online programme is being launched to support parents and carers of children aged up to five.
It is called Healthy Families: Right from the Start, and it will take the form of an eight week online course.
Each weekly session will last for one hour with a couple of videos for the family to watch before each session.
The sessions will be delivered to a small group of up to six families and help will be on offer to support families to get online to access the programme. The themes running through the eight weeks will be:
• Feeling more confident as a parent
• Physical activities for the little ones
• What children and the whole family eats
• Family lifestyle habits
• Enjoying life as a family
Families also receive a free toolkit delivered to their home.
People can self-refer to the programme using this form.
It is all part of the national HENRY programme, which aims to “support a healthy, happy start in life”.
It is being coordinated locally by NHS Shetland’s health improvement department.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
- Stay editorially independent;
- Give a voice to the community;
- Grow site traffic further;
