Community / Appeal for committee members
Staney Hill Hall and Voxter House urgently looking for new volunteers
AN APPEAL has been made for people to consider joining the committee of Voxter House amid dwindling numbers.
An AGM is being held at the north Mainland community building on 22 May at 7.30pm and the committee says it “desperately needs support”.
Committee member Dugie Gunn said the committee has a few longstanding members but it is “need of fresh faces”.
“We run as a charity and rely on volunteers to help keep the place running,” he said.
“We have a great caretaker as our only employee plus a maintenance person, but need help to cover holidays and give support during busy times.
“Voxter is a fantastic facility that is a great asset to the local and wider community, but we need continued support to keep it viable. We are not in dire times yet but would really appreciate a boost of fresh ideas and faces.”
Voxter House, meanwhile, is not the only community facility needing new blood.
Staney Hill Hall in Lerwick faces closure if it does not get new members on its books.
An EGM is being held at the hall tonight (7 May) at 7pm and anyone interested in helping to run the hall is asked to attend.
The current secretary/treasurer will provide support for the next couple of months to anyone taking on the main responsibilities.
