News / Lifeboat call out
LERWICK lifeboat was called out on Sunday afternoon to assist the Banff registered Tranquility, which had reported problems with her engine.
The lifeboat was tasked to proceed to the scene at 1.15pm after Shetland Coastguard had lost communication with the fishing boat which was around 30 miles southeast of Sumburgh.
Lerwick lifeboat stood by just off Sumburgh Head until it became clear that the crew of the Tranquility had managed to restart her engine.
The lifeboat is expected to be back at its Victoria Pier base at just after 5pm.
Lifeboat coxswain Darren Harcus said: “Although it seems that the crew of the vessel weren’t in any imminent danger, we’re pleased that they were able to restore power themselves, without our assistance.
“Strong winds and sea swell could have made this a different outcome. Our crew are always on call to assist, whatever the weather.”
