News / Rescue after rain floods camper on Unst beach

MCA logo

A CAMPER was helped to safety by coastguard volunteers after their beach campsite was flooded by rising water early on Thursday morning.

Coastguard teams from Baltasound and Mid Yell were mustered after police received a call for help from a beach at Hermaness in Unst at 2am.

When they arrived they found the camper up to their knees in water, cut off by a flooded burn and unsure of the direction to safety.

The coastguard said that areas that appear safe to camp may become dangerous after a period of heavy rain.
