News / Scam callers target elderly
THE COUNCIL is warning the elderly to be on their guard as isles residents continue to be targeted by scam phone calls.
Shetland Islands Council trading standards team leader David Marsh said that they had received reports of cold-callers requesting bank details to pay for people’s community alarm or home link systems,
He said: “If you have an alarm, or other telecare support system, provided as part of a care at home package then any contact about it will come through the community health and social care service.
“If you are cold-called in this way, just put down the phone and report it to trading standards on 01595 744887 – if you know the number the call came from, then please pass that on to us as well.”
Allied Health Professions executive manager Jo Robinson added: “We want to reassure people that these calls have nothing to do with our community alarm or home link systems,”
“We will be writing to all our clients but, in the meantime, if you have any questions about your system, you can contact occupational therapy on 01595 744319.”
