THERE were a number of local successes at this year’s Fishing News Awards, which were held in Aberdeen on Thursday.
Charisma skipper David Hutchison picked up the pelagic fisherman of the year prize, while Mizpah’s Lee Odie – who is studying at the NAFC Marine Centre – was named trainee fisherman of the year.
Valhalla’s Ivan Garriock was highly commended in the demersal fisherman of the year category.
Ben Irvine, of the Shetland whitefish trawler Opportune, was also highly commended in the young fisherman section.
Finally, Cullivoe was highly commended in the fishing port of the year category.
