News / Ecstasy tablets prove costly
A MAN from Lerwick who accidentally revealed ecstasy tablets to door staff when he was paying for entry into a club has been fined £540.
John Summers, of Haldane Burgess Crescent, admitted at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday to possessing the class A drug at the town’s Da Wheel Bar on 14 October last year.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the 18 year old was found with two and a half tablets, which would be worth around £12.50, after being searched by police.
Defence agent Gregor Kelly said it “must be some of the most amateur attempts” at drug handling as he nearly handed bouncers the tablets when paying in.
He added that his client had been drunk and had “accepted the tablets from others”.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said it was a “serious matter” as drug possession has a knock-on effect on drug supply.
