News / Wood engraving exhibition
AN EXHIBITION hosted by the Society of Wood Engravers will open in Lerwick on Saturday (31 March).
The event, which is part of the international group’s 80th annual exhibition, will run at Da Gadderie at Shetland Museum until 25 April.
The society was formed in 1920 by a group of artists including Philip Hagreen and Gwen Raverat who made artwork by engraving wood.
The group is said to have thrived until the Second World War, which disrupted demand and the supply of materials, including paper.
Unframed and unmounted prints of artwork will be available to buy from the exhibition, with over 100 pieces on offer.
The display was previously on show at the Bankside Gallery in London in addition to other locations in England.
