THERE was festive cheer in Lerwick on Saturday afternoon as the Christmas lights switch-on parade took place.

Hundreds of people flocked to Commercial Street to see Santa lead the way, while Connor the goat from town shop Love From Shetland – as well as local children – also took part.

The Living Lerwick parade – which also featured the Lerwick jarl squad and the local brass band – culminated in the lights being turned on at the Market Cross Christmas tree.

The chatter on the street was that the tree’s lights was a significant upgrade on last year’s effort, which was dubbed the worst in the country by one disgruntled onlooker and subsequently hit the national media.
