News / Jazz singer set for Sandwick
NEW Zealand jazz singer Karin Reid is set to perform alongside local collective Da Mousa Soond Stompers in Shetland later this month.
The singer – who is the mother of acclaimed rising musician Nadia Reid – will perform a free gig at the Sandwick Social Club on 23 September.
Reid will perform tunes from the Great American Song Book, while she will also pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.
The singer, who is a popular fixture on the local scene in the New Zealand city of Dunedin, said she hopes to bring her own band with her to Shetland in the future.
“It’s my most remote gig to date and a privilege to be able to sing with such a fine bunch of musicians on this wonderful island,” Reid commented.
