News / No plea over domestic abuse
A TWENTY two year old man accused of tormenting his partner over a four-month period had his continued without plea at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.
Liam McLaren, of South Lochside, Lerwick, is accused of subjecting the woman to a course of conduct causing her fear or alarm between 24 April and 3 September.
The behaviour is alleged to have taken place at various locations in Lerwick and one in East Voe.
McLaren is accused of shouting and swearing at the woman, repeatedly phoning and texting her, following her, sleeping in her garage without her permission and monitoring her phone and movements.
He is also alleged to have attempted to set fire to a bag of clothing on the doorstep of her home, threatening to commit suicide if she ended their relationship, climbing up a ladder to see into her bedroom and smashing her bedroom window.
McLaren is further accused of attending the woman’s sister’s house in the early hours of the morning and making threatening remarks. All of the charges are said to have been aggravated by involving abuse of his partner or ex partner.
The case was continued without plea until 13 September and he was granted bail with the conditions that he must not approach her or enter a residential area in East Voe.
