News / Charity motorcycle parade

A MOTORCYCLE parade which could feature over 100 bikes is set to be held in Lerwick in August to raise money for charity.

It is hoped that the event, which will take place on Sunday 6 August, will also promote a positive image of the local motorcycling community.

Shetland Motorcyclists For Charity plans to hold the event every year and this summer’s parade will raise money for the local Macmillan Nurses branch and Disability Shetland.

The group is organised by family trio Robert, Lewie and Ashlea Tulloch and they are calling on anyone with a motorcycle to take part, regardless of experience.

Zetland Motorcycle Club and the Shetland Classic Motorcycle Club have already signed up and many of its members will feature on the day.

The parade will start at 3pm at Victoria Pier and it will follow the north to south Lerwick loop.

The Tullochs said the parade was partly inspired by a show put on by stunt biker Dave Taylor in the streets of Lerwick in the 1980s, with the family keen to see more community events of this ilk held in the isles.

Anyone interested in taking part can contact shetlandmotorcyclists@gmail.com.
