News / More Whalsay waterworks
SCOTTISH Water will be carrying out some water mains work in Whalsay in the coming days.
A programme of “air scouring of the mains” will begin on Thursday and customers will see a disruption to supply as the work is carried out. Those affected will be notified of the approximate time their water will be off, Scottish Water said.
The scouring follows work done last week after a restriction on supply was introduced temporarily for 140 properties in part of the island.
Since the restriction on supply was lifted last Friday, flushing of the water mains has continued, and samples have been monitored.
The air scouring will help ensure Scottish Water can continue to provide fresh, clean drinking water into the future, the organisation said.
The new water treatment plant on the island is producing high quality water and the issue has arisen due to older pipes in the north of the island.
