News / Music exchange concerts
TWO free concerts are taking place in Shetland over the coming days that will bring together young fiddlers from the isles and London in a musical exchange.
Twelve children – six from Shetland and six from London – have been spending time together through a project called East Winds, which has been devised by English performing arts charity Shapeshifter Productions.
The two groups will perform at Mareel in Lerwick on Friday night before heading to Yell’s Cullivoe Hall on Saturday.
The children, who are aged between 12 and 14, have been tutored by Balu Raguraman and Paul Anderson and they have been exploring Indian, classic and traditional music.
The project includes two one-week residences in Shetland and London, with a further two concerts due to take place in the UK capital in July.
The Shetland concerts will also feature local artists Da Shanty Yell Men and Fiola, as well as Paul Anderson.
The shows are free, but booking is encouraged via the Shetland Arts box office.
