News / SCT looking for new trustees
SHETLAND Charitable Trust is recruiting new members for its board in an attempt to create a “diverse” range of trustees.
The trust is looking for “enterprising, energetic and experienced individuals” to put themselves forward.
The £230m trust is currently in the process of changing its governance structure, with the organisation hoping to reduce the number of councillor trustees from seven to four.
Keith Massey, chairman of the trust’s audit and governance advisory committee, said being a trustee has been one of the “most interesting and satisfying areas of public service I’ve been involved in”.
“Trustees recently agreed to hold our formal meetings in the evening to make the trust more accessible, particularly to those who have work or other commitments during the day,” he added.
“I would therefore encourage anyone who feels they could be a trustee to put their name forward.”
Trustees are not remunerated, but travel and subsistence expenses can be claimed. They attend four normal meetings per year and also serve on advisory committees.
The recruitment drive comes in the same week seven trustees penned a strongly worded open letter to vice chairman Jonathan Wills in defiant defence of chairman Bobby Hunter.
Wills has repeatedly stressed that he feels the majority of members should be directly elected.
For more information on becoming a trustee, contact chief executive Dr Ann Black on 01595 744990 or email ann.black@shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk
An application pack can be downloaded from the trust’s website www.shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk, or people can arrange to receive one via telephone 01595 744994 or in person at the trust’s office at 22-24 North Road, Lerwick.
