News / Loganair changes schedule to avoid gales

LOGANAIR has vastly altered its flight schedule for Friday in an attempt to avoid the worst of the anticipated strong winds.

A number of scheduled flights to and from Shetland have been moved to earlier times as airline Loganair attempts to dodge the poor weather.

Some flights in and out of Sumburgh have been cancelled, but those affected will be rebooked onto other flights.

It is anticipated that the timetable will run as usual on Christmas Eve, but passengers are asked to confirm the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.

Earlier this week, Loganair confirmed that passengers due to travel on a flight on Friday or Saturday could transfer to earlier departures for free to ensure they get home for Christmas.

A spokesperson for Loganair said on Wednesday: “Several hundred customers have taken advantage of Loganair’s offer earlier this week to rearrange their travel plans for Friday and Saturday.

“We expect to run a normal schedule on Wednesday and Thursday but are re-timing 27 flights on Friday to operate earlier, ahead of forecast weather deteriorations, and cancelling ten other services where forecasts indicate no reasonable prospect of being able to operate.”
