News / Overcoming barriers to employment
AN EVENT will be held in Lerwick on Friday to encourage more local employers to take part in a scheme designed to help people overcome barriers in their efforts to secure a job.
Local charity Moving On Employment Project is hosting the event at Market House, starting with lunch at 12.30pm.
It has been facilitating the job brokerage service for the Shetland employability pathway project since April last year.
Co-ordinator Lincoln Carroll said he hoped the event will “spread the word” of the pathway scheme, which helps people to secure work placements and paid employment.
He added that “without the support of local employers there would be very limited opportunities for participants to enter the workforce”.
The scheme helps people access work placement and volunteering opportunities in the view of attaining paid employment.
