FURNITURE shop Irvine Interiors is opening its new purpose-built premises on Lerwick’s Commercial Road this Friday.

The store boasts a larger floor area than the company’s current premises at Gremista Industrial Estate and will stock a wide-ranging selection of furniture, beds, mattresses and upholstery.

Store manager Raewyn Irvine said the move from Gremista to near the town centre is a major step forward for the company.

“We are looking forward to welcoming customers to the new street-front shop where they will be able to try our products all in one convenient location,” she said.

To celebrate the new store’s opening weekend, anyone who pops in on Friday and Saturday can enter their name into the hat for a chance to win £500 of store credit.

Meanwhile, the existing store at Gremista will be converted into a warehouse.

Irvine said: “Using the old store as a warehouse provides us with more display space for products in the new shop.”

Although Irvine Interiors is just four years old, the company, in some shape or form, has been selling furniture for the past 18 years.

Starting out as part of Lerwick Building Centre, the company first began selling flat pack furniture in 2001, progressing to beds and mattresses just one year later. Ready assembled furniture followed shortly after, including sofas and chairs.

Today, they have a team of seven staff and operate as part of the same buying group as many well-known mainland competitors.

Unlike mainland competitors, however, they are able to offer a personal after sales service to Shetland residents, Irvine added.

“We believe that the new storefront will only add to the high level of service and convenience that we provide to our Shetland customers and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to join us in celebrating its opening,” she said.
