News / Funding for three groups
THREE local groups are being awarded a total of £30,000 through Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative.
Shoppers at the Lerwick supermarket are now being asked to decide who of the groups – Aith Junior High School Parent Council, Bell’s Brae Primary School and Skeld Waterfront Development Trust – should receive the largest share.
The funds will be distributed in the form of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 grants.
The Shetland allocation is part of a £12.5 million fund raised from the 5p carrier bag levy.
Voting is open in the Lerwick store from 26 September to 9 October.

Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
