A THIRTY two year old woman who admitted possessing heroin has been fined and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
Nicola MacLennan, whose address was given as Solheim Guest House, King Harald Street, Lerwick, pleaded guilty to possessing the class A substance at the same location on 13 February this year.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday that MacLennan was detained and searched by police after she collected a “suspect package”.
He said 2.4 grams of heroin with a maximum street value of £240 was found.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said using heroin was “not something that is new” for his client.
She had been in a relationship with an abusive partner who got her involved in the drugs scene in Chesterfield.
MacLennan moved to Shetland, where she has family, to try and turn her life around.
She is trying to get into college and remains “intent on removing herself from the use of this drug”.
Sheriff Philip Mann said that, while MacLennan had previous convictions, she had pleaded guilty at an early stage.
He gave her a community payback order of 100 hours and fined her £150.
