News / Missing woman is found following extensive search
POLICE in Lerwick have confirmed that, following extensive searches, an elderly woman reported missing has been found and taken to hospital for checks.
In a statement shortly after 1am on Thursday, police said that 78-year-old Wilma Tulloch had been traced in the Breiwick area of Lerwick.
Police said there was “no update on her condition, however she has been taken to hospital to be checked over”.
She was found by a coastguard helicopter, which had been in the air over the town conducting searches for well over an hour on Wednesday night.
The Lerwick Lifeboat was tasked at 11pm to assist the search, with the boat stood down after Tulloch was found at half past midnight.
Wilma had last been seen in the Clickimin Road area of Lerwick at 3pm on Wednesday, and there had been concern for her safety as she has an underlying medical condition.
Officers said they would “like to thank the public for their help, shares of the original post and support whilst the searches were ongoing. Your assistance is always appreciated.”
