News / Punched wall at Da Wheel

A TWENTY three year old who lost his temper over a “trivial matter” and punched a hole in the wall of a Lerwick pub has been offered the chance to repair the damage before being sentenced.

James King, of 29 Sandveien, Lerwick, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by punching a wall in Da Wheel Bar on Saturday night.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said King had been out with his girlfriend for a birthday party when they fell out.

She locked herself in a toilet cubicle and refused to come out to talk. He became frustrated and punched a hole in the plasterboard.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client, a qualified mechanic, had made a “full and frank admission” to the police. He had been in custody for more than 24 hours and was now probably single.

Sheriff Philip Mann deferred sentence until 3 August and told King that if he paid for the damage he would “probably be quite lenient on you”.
