News / Event on local employment and training opportunities
A NEW multi-agency event designed to give young people information about local employment, training and education opportunities will take place in Lerwick on Tuesday.
The Hub Project is teaming up with Skills Development Scotland to host the convention for 16-25 year olds at Islesburgh’s Room 16 between 7-9pm.
The event will focus solely on local opportunities, with a host of organisations such as Train Shetland, Shetland College and the Construction Industry Training Board due to feature.
Other areas that will be covered at the convention include housing, funding and volunteering.
The event will have a focus on catering for people who may have been unable to attend previous careers conventions in Lerwick, or those who may be currently out of employment, training or education.
The Hub Project’s Saul Day said that the event had been created to provide a source of first-hand information about Shetland opportunities instead of being focused on the UK mainland.
“This will be the first time Shetland-based services have collaborated to provide such an event for young people that focuses solely on local opportunities, so hopefully it’s a success,” he said.
“If the event’s well-attended, then we’ll look to make it an annual occurrence.”
