News / Police report large drug seizures

Police in Shetland made a number of significant drug seizures over the weekend.

Two men remain in police custody following a number of raids during which heroin, cannabis and ecstasy were seized.

On Sunday morning, police officers working with the Dogs Against Drugs charity found heroin with an estimated street value of £16,000 on a 38 year old man as he was disembarking the ferry from Aberdeen.

Meanwhile on Friday, a 29 year old was arrested and charged with being involved in the supply of drugs after cannabis was seized following the search of a house in Lerwick.

Chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch said: “In total, three houses have been searched, two people have been arrested and charged with being concerned in supply controlled drugs, and four people have been charged with possession of drugs.

“This reinforces our commitment and ability to act on information provided by the community.

“If the public continue to phone in and support us with information we can deter people from carrying drugs to Shetland and reduce the availability of drugs in the community.”

The area commander for Shetland added: “Being found in possession of drugs or any other involvement in the supply of drugs can lead to a significant jail sentence; I would urge anyone to think twice before they get involve in drugs.”
