News / Mareel student showcase
THIS YEAR’S Mareel student showcase will take place tonight (1 June).
Music and video students will show off their skills in the Mareel auditorium to cap off their academic year.
Tunes on offer from the Shetland College music students will vary from acoustic sets to electronic funk, with the likes of guitarist Robbie Walterson and keyboardist Lewis Hall set to perform.
Walterson said he would “definitely recommend” the Mareel-based course to any budding musicians.
“I have learned so much and have made many friends, and I always appreciate the opportunity to play some live gigs,” he said.
“The showcase really is one of the highlights of my year, and the preparation is definitely worth it.”
Music lecturer Fraser Mouat said he is “awfully proud” to see his students progress through the year before things culminate with the showcase.
“It’s always good to hear which songs they decide to play, and watching and hearing them rehearse to get everything tight and sounding great is something I always enjoy witnessing every year,” he said.
“I think this is going to be a showcase to remember.”
Students from the Vocational Pathways video class meanwhile will bring a visual element to the night.
- Tickets for the student showcase event are available via Shetland Box Office.
