News / Birthday bonfire beacons
QUEEN Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday will be celebrated with a handful of events across Shetland on Thursday evening.
Unst will be the most northerly location in the UK to take part in a nationwide beacon lighting ceremony.
The bonfire is expected to be lit at Saxa Vord at 7.25pm, with folk advised to arrive by around 7.15pm.
There will also be a celebratory bonfire in Reawick on the west side at 7.30pm.
People have been told to bring food, drink and musical instruments.
The Lerwick Town Hall meanwhile flew the Union Jack flag on Thursday in honour of the Queen’s milestone birthday.
