News / Helicopter call out

A SEARCH and rescue helicopter from Sumburgh was tasked early on Thursday morning to assist a two-person fishing boat taking on water in the Pentland Firth.

Aberdeen coastguard received the emergency call at around 4am from the Frem, which was located near Orkney.

The Sumburgh helicopter, a lifeboat from Thurso and Shetland based pelagic trawler Altaire, which was in the area, attended.

A pump was successfully taken onboard the vessel to remove the water and the boat was then taken to Scrabster.
