News / Lightning cuts power

NEARLY 1,200 properties lost power in Shetland’s south mainland on Thursday morning as a result of lightning strikes.

SSE Hydro said the power cut in the Sandwick area happened at around 10.20am.

A total of 1,199 properties were affected, with all but 50 having their power restored by 11.45am.

The remaining properties were reconnected at around 12.30pm.
