News / Benefits fraud
A TWENTY one year old woman who fraudulently obtained over £2,000 in benefits has been placed under supervision for nine months.
Kate Puffett, of 97 Sandveien, Lerwick, admitted knowingly failing to give information to the Department of Work and Pensions between 16 March 2013 and 29 December 2014 about a change in circumstances.
She failed to disclose that her child was no longer in her care, allowing her to obtain income support of £2,170.20 that she was not entitled to.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client was “very ashamed” of her actions.
Sheriff Philip Mann decided against fining Puffett, as it would “only add to her difficulties”.
